Jym Baker was born the only child of Iman Folsom (Prank) and Jo'Jym Baker.

Jim can manipulate the growth of a crystaline material called Isylcore, a nearly indestructible naturally occurring Martian mineral. 

When Jym was attending the Academy of Science on Mars - he was exposed to a lethal dose of Onyx Element called Isylcore in it's liquid form.  The procedure of hibernation used to save his life caused him to go blind and triggered his ability. 

Afterward - Jim was asked to join the Heroes of The Insect World as an auxiliary member and charged with the teams medical care.
